About this Blog

I started this blog as a record of my journey in learning how to run. I hope my experience can help you too in your mission to get off the couch, start exercising and lose that extra layer.

My posts are honest and personal. I have divided them into three sections that comment on my emotions, the physical run (jog!) and tips for next time to help me improve my performance. I hope you can use these ideas to encourage and help you along in your couch to 5k journey.

Please share your experiences, ideas or questions in the comment section of each post.

Week 1, Day 4 (!)

(9:00am Saturday)

Emotions (before):
I wasn't satisfied with my efforts on Friday and I felt I was not ready to start week 2. I decided to repeat the run. I could of slept in. I would normally have slept in. But something in me has changed. I wanted to go out and exercise.

I put on my running gear and as I was putting up my pony tail in front of the mirror, I had a glance at myself. I had a feeling I have never had before. I felt like a runner, an exerciser. And I looked the part. Okay, for some of you, this may be a bit premature, but for me it felt wonderful. I wanted to run.

The run:
As I was repeating a day, I thought to myself "If I cannot do any of the runs I will just walk them," as I did not want to push my 'developing' muscles too hard. Funny though, I did every run. Yes I was tired, but something in me wanted to get through it. I wanted to achieve what I didn't the day before. I wanted to feel ready for week 2. So I did it and I confidently completed it. I gave myself an imaginary medal as I had completed week 1 :).

Tips for next run:
  • If you feel like exercising - go do it! Even if you are repeating a day or just going for a walk. If your in that frame of mind don't waste it!
  • Have your running gear always ready or with you, even if you go away.
