About this Blog

I started this blog as a record of my journey in learning how to run. I hope my experience can help you too in your mission to get off the couch, start exercising and lose that extra layer.

My posts are honest and personal. I have divided them into three sections that comment on my emotions, the physical run (jog!) and tips for next time to help me improve my performance. I hope you can use these ideas to encourage and help you along in your couch to 5k journey.

Please share your experiences, ideas or questions in the comment section of each post.

My little personal milestones:
*Dec 9 2011 - I fit into my skinny leg denim capris that I did not even attempt to wear last summer. Four weeks ago they would not go past the middle of my thighs! I tried them on in jest and today I did them up (with a few bits hanging over - but they still did up!) woo hoo! This is after only 3 weeks of the program - imagine what I could do if I cut out all the bad food!

Jan 14 2012 - I just put on a pair of stretch denim shorts, that 1 month ago I could not get up onto my hips (I tried them on with the capris). They did up and fit well too. Yay! I haven't been able to wear them for 2 years. Even though I have been eating and drinking more than I should of (of things I shouldn't) over the festive season, they just slipped on. The blubber must be melting away and muscle is building up which is why there isn't a lot of movement on the scales. A note too - this is all because of the jogging, I haven't been dieting at all.

Feb 14 2012 - I have been receiving many compliments about my weight loss. Although I only lost 3.6kg on the scales, people have been saying that you can noticeably see the loss of fat and my body toning up, even those who don't know I am exercising! I can also start to see it myself: my calves have shape, my face has lost a layer and I feel more confident in my clothes. Yay! As I am back at work, I am routinely eating healthier throughout the day in addition to the 30 minute jogs (which are at least twice a week). I have lost 1kg in one week because of this!

Feb 19 2012 - I fit into my bikini and wore it with confidence! I was so happy I nearly cried. It was the first time I have ever worn it (in public) since I bought it over two years ago. Although I am still a few kilos heavier than when I bought it, I am so much more toned and I felt confident in it. I may not be the bikini model in it, but I finally, after all this time, got into it! Now the goal is to look hot in it... :P

...and the stuff ups

*Dec 13 2011 - Absolutely no excuses for my weight gain. After the first two weeks I had lost a positive amount of weight without doing anything major to my diet, except cut out unhealthy food during the working week.

So in week 3 I became arrogant. I thought I could eat what I like...and I did. I had chips and chocolate and pizza and dinner out twice and alcohol and nibbles and lollies all during the week. This is the punishment, I gained exactly the same amount of weight as I had lost the previous week. No excuses, like muscle weighs more than fat, this is all because I ate too much unhealthy food.

At least I definitely know now it has to be a combination of both eating healthy and exercise, you can't just do one or the other to progress in the weight loss mission. Derrrr.

*Dec 27 2011 - It is Christmas/New Years time, a lot of celebrating...

*Feb 28 2012 - Spent the week eating everything that is no good. Went out to dinner twice for Chinese, snacked on lollies and chocolates and filled up on bolagnase and home made pizza. Yep, enough said.

*Mar 20 2012 - I didn't run for 3 weeks and with this I craved unhealthy foods (and ate them). Enough said.
