About this Blog

I started this blog as a record of my journey in learning how to run. I hope my experience can help you too in your mission to get off the couch, start exercising and lose that extra layer.

My posts are honest and personal. I have divided them into three sections that comment on my emotions, the physical run (jog!) and tips for next time to help me improve my performance. I hope you can use these ideas to encourage and help you along in your couch to 5k journey.

Please share your experiences, ideas or questions in the comment section of each post.

iPhone Apps

Get Running (Couch to 5ks)

I chose this app based on the voice of the trainer. It is a calm, friendly, female with an English accent who coaches you throughout, even to tell you to turn around and head the same path home. She is always encouraging, and believe it or not, this makes a difference. She is motivating in a happy way.

She always advises when there is a certain amount of time left, like 10 seconds (yay!) or 5 runs. It also smoothly moves the volume down of the music to update your progress and smoothly puts it back up when she has finished. An American male commando of other popular apps isn't my thing.

GPS

As I have started to run longer times, I wanted to see my jogging pace and distance progression. So I downloaded the free app iMapMyRun. This is pretty good for a free app, with lots of details about your workout available on their website. This works easily with Get Running and Music on the iPhone. As I become a jogging pro (!), I may choose another.
