About this Blog

I started this blog as a record of my journey in learning how to run. I hope my experience can help you too in your mission to get off the couch, start exercising and lose that extra layer.

My posts are honest and personal. I have divided them into three sections that comment on my emotions, the physical run (jog!) and tips for next time to help me improve my performance. I hope you can use these ideas to encourage and help you along in your couch to 5k journey.

Please share your experiences, ideas or questions in the comment section of each post.

Week 5, Day 2

31 minutes of exercise: 5 minutes to warm-up, 5 to cool-down and 16 minutes running.
(2 x run 8 minutes, 1 x walk 5 minutes)

(Wednesday 8:00am)

Emotions (before):
I was not nervous about this jog at all. Two runs, sounds easy! I woke up a bit tired and a bit late, but got straight into it anyway.

The run:
Somehow, without knowing it, I had clicked the repeat button on my iPod, so of course I was all put off by the stopping, song changing and restarting. During the run, I had no idea that this is what I had done, so I wasn't able to quickly fix it.  These interruptions really got me down during the session. I was getting through the jog confidently, but it just wasn't as smoothly as I wanted. In the last run I had to just suck it up and choose a song that I could listen to on repeat for the 8 minute run.

Aside from this hiccup, the session was really good today. Last week's exertions really prepare you for the longer time period and ensure you happily complete the longer jog. The 5 minute walk in between really helps in regaining your energy too. I jogged 8 minutes! Twice! Woo hoo!

Wow, 20 minutes next session! Now that is a big eek!

Tips for next time:
  • Do not leave until you are completely comfortable that all your clothing and accessories are in place and your equipment is all in working order. The littlest drama will be exaggerated during your session.
